Men’s
Mens Club Captain – Lea Wood – 2024/2025 – Handicap 13
Welcome to Wyboston Lakes Golf Club,
I would like to start by saying how proud and privileged I feel to be the Mens captain for the coming year. It is a huge honour for me and I will undertake the position to the very best of my ability.
I started playing golf back in the early 90’s. Football was always my sport, but with age creeping up on me, limiting me to how much football I could play, I looked for a new, more relaxing pastime. I had always watched golf on tv and so I decided I would give it a go. I bought some second hand clubs and with my best friend, we started our golfing venture. Wyboston Lakes was the course I played my very first round at, and from that moment on, I was hooked on golf! I have had 2 spells as a member here and I can honestly say, it really is the best club I have ever been involved with, for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, the course itself is beautiful, set in a tranquil riverside and lakeside venue. Each hole offers its own challenges, from tree lined fairways where being straight off the tee is a must, to holes where avoiding the water is key.
Secondly and I feel, more importantly, what makes this club stand out from others is its members. From Juniors through to seniors and womens section too, you’ll never be short of someone to go around with or indeed have a sociable drink with after in the lakeside setting of the Waterfront Bar and Restaurant.
Our men’s section at Wyboston Lakes is always busy with competitions throughout the summer and winter months. These include weekend medals, midweek medals and named board competition throughout the year. These all culminate with an order of merit at the end of year for both Gross and Net scores. Mid-Week golf is also very well supported, with social roll-ups on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Here at Wyboston Lakes we also hold several major competitions throughout the year which include:
- Club Championship, which is held over 2 days
- Presidents Cup, which is a 36 hole competition
- Captains Day
There are also team events, fun competitions and new for 2024, we have our new Pin Seekers driving range, complete with Trackman technology for you to hone your golfing skills. Our range gives you the opportunity to play famous courses from around the world, play fun games or just warm up before the next competition.
So, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to our fantastic club. Remember, whatever your golfing needs, be sure here at Wyboston Lakes, we’ve got you covered.
Happy Golfing everyone.
